People are dissatisfied with the shape of their noses for a variety of reasons, and it can have a serious impact on their self-esteem. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Sieveking, offers rhinoplasty surgery to address both cosmetic and functional issues you may have with your nose. This procedure can address lifelong problems you may have had with your nose and improve balance and harmony among facial features.
Rhinoplasty can renew both form and function of the nose, helping to recontour nasal shape and size and/or correct problems such as a deviated septum. Benefits of rhinoplasty include:
This procedure can often be beneficial in combination with a chin augmentation or other facial rejuvenation treatments to enhance overall balance among facial features. Dr. Sieveking will meet with you for an initial consultation to talk about your ultimate goals and help you determine if rhinoplasty is right for your needs.
Rhinoplasty begins with incisions made either outside of the nose or inside the nostrils. If the incisions are placed outside of the nose, residual scarring should still be virtually undetectable as the incisions are made in the natural nasal creases. Dr. Sieveking will then reshape nasal bone and cartilage to meet your specific needs, or work to correct functional problems and improve breathing issues. A temporary splint may need to be placed in order to help maintain the nose’s new shape during recovery.
There will be some bruising and swelling in the nasal area after rhinoplasty surgery; however, this should fade in the ensuing weeks. Discomfort during recovery can be managed with medication. Dr. Sieveking will advise you to keep your head elevated for a short time after surgery, and he recommends that you do not engage in strenuous activity for a few weeks, or activities that can potentially harm the nose for several months after the rhinoplasty procedure. Most patients can resume normal daily activities about a week following rhinoplasty surgery.
